For this 700th post of mine, I would like to point out another goof of sorts.  The cigarette that Shemp lit while in the hammock and tossed into the trash can looked to be bent at about a 45-degree angle the entire time I saw it.  I don't smoke, drink, or chew, but I know that I have never seen a bent cigarette in use.  (I wish I had never seen any type of terbacky up close and personal, but no such luck.)

"Three Blind Mice," definitely -- and the sped-up version of 1942-1944 was the best.

Absolutely sucks to hear about Roy Halladay. These ball players and small plane crashes seem to happen too often.  As a Blue Jay, he was always a competitor Red Sox fans respected...and it was strange, he'd either kill Boston or Boston would light him up, rarely in between, it seems, and his career numbers bare this out.  As someone who lives in Philly territory, I can tell you Phillie fans love him.  On that note, extra baseball condolences to both Tony Bensley and Lefty.  Fuck!

Yes, we did love Doc.  It was a terrible tragedy, most definitely.  While I thoroughly enjoy watching the last out of his perfect game and his playoff no-hitter, yesterday was not how I wanted to see them.

Even after he could no longer pitch, Doc would still help out with the Phillies' pitchers in spring training.

Roy Halladay, Thurman Munson, Corey Lidle -- maybe baseball players are just not cut out to be airplane pilots.

In 1979, the Pittsburgh Bumblebees won Game 7 of the World Series in Baltimore.  It was the last time the visiting team would win Game 7 until S.F. in 2014; and now it's 3 of the last 4 World Series that this has occurred.  (It's a good thing it did not take place in 2015.)  It is also the first time that the American League won Game 7 in the National League park since the A's beat the Reds in 1972, the last DH-less season.

For some reason, baseball doesn't have the home advantage that other sports do (or in the case of the NHL, did before the teams' cookie-cutter home "centers" were built).

I'm okay with the Astros winning, although it would have been interesting to hear Chase Utley make the comment again that he did at the Phillies' parade in 2008.   ;)

When I first saw the line score, I thought for sure that Ken Giles had a "BS" next to his name in the box score.  Turns out he didn't even get into the game.  Maybe had the game gone to at least the 13th inning, GWB could have pitched.  Or maybe his ceremonial toss meant he couldn't get back in?   ::)

Just think how crazy this game would have been in the National League park, with no DH.  Both teams might have run out of pitchers.

In other news, it looks as though the Phillies will hire Gabe Kapler to be their next manager, going outside the or-guh-nye-zay-shun for the first time since Terry Francona got the job in 1997.  If Kapler gets the nod, he can bring in Barbarino and Washington as coaches, as unfortunately, Horshack and Epstein are no longer with us.

Well, I was half-right with my prediction on who would be in the World Series.  I was waiting for the "hump-ires" to make things go the Yankees' way, but fortunately it didn't happen.  Joe Schmuck is unhappy, so that's a good thing as well.  As for the championship, Houston winning would be a feel-good story after Hurricane Harvey wrecked the city.

Now the Yankees are just as good as the Mets and the Phillies this year!    [3stooges]

So much for Yankees vs. Red Sox, disappointing no one but the networks, but unfortunately, the Yankees are still alive and probably should have won the series already, which they probably will tomorrow night unless they can sign Joba the Hut Chamberlain to pitch for them.   :P

As for the Red Sox's elimination, they may be able to thank St. Paul native Mark Wegner, but I was hoping that it would have ended with a player thrown out at second base by 20 feet trying to stretch a single into a double, if you know what (or whom) I mean.  (And I cannot believe that the Phillies would even consider that boob to be their next manager.)

The good news is, St. Louis did not make the playoffs.  The bad news is, NYY did, and the Phillies did not get the top overall draft pick next year -- but they would probably blow it regardless.

Predictions for the post-season, based on what I do NOT want to see but will probably be rigged to happen anyway:
ALCS:  Yankees beat Red Sox.
NLCS:  Dodgers beat Cubs.
World Series:  MLB and the networks get what they want, Yankees over Dodgers in 7 games.

With apologies to Lefty, the Phillies are the first team officially eliminated.  29 teams left.

It certainly took them long enough!  Now it's time for the main goal -- get the first overall draft pick next year (which they will probably screw up anyway, either with the choice itself or letting the Giants and White Sox overtake -- or undertake -- them in the overall standings).

Although this tends to be an unpopular opinion, I actually preferred the more campy version of Batman to the darker version that is more familiar to audiences today, so this was especially upsetting for me to hear.

Likewise here, and I watch two episodes of the TV show on the complete-and-uncut DVD every week, unless the Flyers are playing day games on both Saturday and Sunday.  Now the only main characters left from that show are Burt Ward (Robin), Julie Newmar (the only legitimate Catwoman), John Astin (the poor substitute for the Riddler), Joan Collins (Siren), Glynis Johns (Lady Peasoup), and Barbara Rush (Nora Clavicle).

R.I.P. Caped Crusader!

On this 58th anniversary of the release of this short, the last of them, I can state that I did something last Sunday night that I had never done before, and only because Monday was a holiday.  I normally watch three episodes of the Stooges on Sunday evening, but last week I watched six, just to complete the cycle.  Yes, I am still feeling woozy about having watched six straight Joe shorts at one sitting (or reclining).  But then, it sure beats watching the Phillies do whatever it is they do.   [pie]

"Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.  Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic. "

It's the Flyers' fault for having played 4 consecutive Sunday nights at the end of the regular season, preempting my normal Stooge-watching time -- especially the way they played this season.    [cry]

Annie How, I began the cycle again yesterday (always going in order of volumes 1-5-2-6-3-7-4-8 to avoid watching all of one third Stooge at a time), and my opinion has not changed, this being my least-favorite Curly short.  The rhyming wasn't even used in everything, and the music -- well, even Batman did not play music at all times in that TV show.

My favorite parts were Curly's woo-ing when Moe bit his toe, and Larry's rhyme:
"Rain nor shine nor rain, I'll meet yez at the train, and now I'll tell the lady that I'll never see her again," after which the Stooges crash their beer mugs.

Also, when Curly asked Moe what day it was, Moe looked at his right wrist.  I didn't know they had calendar watches in 1934!

Predictions:

1.  The Cubs will win the World Series, because whenever they have done so, it has been in consecutive years.  So after this year, they will have to wait until 2125.

2.  The Yankees and Cardinals will buy their way into the post-season.

3.  The Phillies will still suck.

4.  The Phillies will continue to still suck.

5.  The Red Sox will miss the playoffs by one game because of a mental breakdown by their first-base coach.

I always thought Moe swore in this one....does he not say, "Get the f*** off me!" at the 5:15 mark?

It sure does sound like Moe said that!
