General Discussion / Re: Larry Fine and my dad

That was so awesome of your Dad to do that for you!  (Is he a Three Stooges fan too?)

Please tell him that Stooges fans all over are grateful that he was able to record that interview with Larry, and please pass along a belated Happy Birthday as well!  :)

News and Announcements / Embedding videos on the forum
« on: August 19, 2017, 01:09:30 PM »
I just installed a new mod to make it easy to embed YouTube videos again.  Let's see if it works:

Yep!  [cool]

You'll see three new buttons on the right side of the toolbar when making a post.  (See attached image.)

These BBCode takes these forms:

Code: [Select]
[youtube]{youtube link}[/youtube]
[youtube width=x height=y]{youtube link}[/youtube]
[yt]{youtube ID}[/yt]
[yt {parameters}]{youtube ID}[/yt]
[yt_user {parameters}]{username}[/yt_user]
[yt_search]{search query}[/yt_search]
[yt_search {parameters}]{search query}[/yt_search]

where width and height is specified by x and y.  If width and height aren't specified, width is 100% of the post display area and height in a 16:9 ratio to the width.

The yt_user bbcode will show videos by the specified YouTube username.

The yt_search bbcode will show videos matching the provided search phrase.

This mod should be able to display a valid YouTube video when passing URLs.  For example, all of the following will display the YouTube video at
Code: [Select]

For YouTube Videos:
Code: [Select]

For YouTube PlayLists:
Substituting,,, and also works.  https:// works instead of http://.  Please note any other parameters specified in the URL are ignored.

Optional parameters and values for all YouTube bbcodes are:
o width = Specifies the width of the iframe area.
o height = Specifies the height of the iframe area.
o start = Specifies how far into the video to start at.  Valid formats: "Seconds" or "Minutes:Seconds"
o end = Specifies how far into the video to stop at.  Valid formats: "Seconds" or "Minutes:Seconds"
o autoplay = 1, yes, on or true
o color = red or white
o theme = dark or light
o loop = 1, yes, on or true
o controls = 0, no, off, hide or false
o showinfo = 0, no, off, hide or false
o privacy = 1, yes, on or true

Profile Settings
There is a new option under Profile => Look and Layout called Show YouTube videos as a link.  Checking this box makes the mod create links instead of embedded videos in your post.

Well, that took even less time than I had hoped, let alone what I expected.  lol  The only issue I ran into was with the login function, and I managed to find the fix for that pretty quickly, so the site is public again, and if you have an account you can log in again.

I don't have registration available right now on  I am working on tying in membership here on the forum to being able to login on, but I haven't worked it all out yet.  I'll post an update when I have that figured out.  :)

Thank you, Doug, for all you've done to keep this forum going over the years!   [cool]

I've put into "Under Construction" mode, so nothing will be working over there right now.  I have to delete whole folders of scripts and upload the new ones, so the site will be down for a while, but with any luck it won't be too long.  [Crosses fingers]

The site's scripting framework was even older than I realized, so there have been a lot of steps that I've needed to take to make sure that I don't break anything.  (I don't want to repeat the past.  lol!)  Anyway, I doubt that anyone has even noticed anything on so far, but this coming Saturday (August 19th) it will probably be "down" long enough for someone to notice as I will need to re-upload most of my scripts as well (there are file naming changes to the next major update.)

Once all of the updates to the framework are completed I will turn the login feature back on for everyone, so forum members will be able to rate episodes and post reviews over there again.

I post more updates as work progresses (i.e., it takes longer than expected or I screw something up, etc.  Don't worry, Brent - I'm backing everything up first.  lol)

News and Announcements / Maintenance on this weekend

Hi Everyone!

I will be updating on Saturday, August 5th, so that site will be closed for a while (probably starting by Noon.)  I will be upgrading the coding framework used on the site, and trying to tighten the web site's security to keep the blasted hacker's out.  I will post updates here as needed, if I should run into any problems.

News and Announcements / Damned hackers struck again!
« on: June 02, 2016, 12:43:38 PM »
I'm really getting sick of this crap.  Some fucking asshole hacked again today and this time the fucktard deleted ALL of the files from the public html folder and put some scamming or spamming code up instead.  I've deleted the hacker's files and I am re-uploading the files; the site is working but will be hard to navigate and it will look weird until all of the images and other supporting files have uploaded.  :(

Login on the site has been disabled again until I figure out these bastards are getting in and can take steps to make sure they can't do it again.   >:(

General Discussion / Re: Account suspended?
« on: May 11, 2016, 01:09:00 PM »

Finally, after numerous support tickets and spending an hour on the phone with the hosting company's tech support, the site is live again.  We will be looking for a new hosting company in the future.  This current outfit used to be good, but these days their customer service just completely sucks.

I'm not mad that they suspended the account - someone was hijacking the domain to run an email scam - but I found the issue and fixed it as soon as I was aware of the problem, and the hosting company was notified the following morning that the issue was fixed.  We submitted several tech support tickets trying to get this resolved, and all of them were ignored. One service rep actually told my brother that they have a new ticket system, but it isn't integrated with the old system, and neither system is sending out the email notices that they should be sending. So that's it, we're done with this company and will be finding a better outfit as quickly as possible.

General Discussion / Re: Account suspended? (Update)
« on: May 09, 2016, 04:35:35 PM »
Hi Everybody!  A quick update on the status of

As I said in my last post, some assholes hacked into the site at some point and uploaded a bunch of files that allowed them to piggy-back some kind of email scam on the server.  I was able to identify and delete all of the hacker's folders and files (having a complete unique site helps, since they stood out like sore thumbs to me once I knew to look for them.  I know my own code and folder structure.  lol)

The biggest headache of all this is the primary hosting company's tech support.  They are apparently being made to use a new support ticket system which hasn't been integrated with the old system and which won't send out the email notifications that should be getting sent.  Basically they've gotten too big for their britches and now some idiot new IT manager has to screw things up by "updating" something that was working fine without making damn sure everything was properly integrated first.

Anyway, we've confirmed to them that all of the offending files are gone, and the site is supposed to get a review and then re-activated if everything checks.  The only question now is how long is that going to take.  They've know for about 5 hours so far, and the account is still suspended, so your guess is as good as mine.  Hopefully sometime this evening, from what we've seen this weekend it could still be a day or two.

Everything is intact (the hacker's never touched the site's files, which is why I hadn't noticed them,) and the database doesn't seem to have been hacked, so once the site clears tech support it should just reappear.

I do need to get back to work on the site this summer (Brent will be glad to hear that.)  I need to finish converting the admin code so I can eliminate pretty much all the scripts on the public side of the server.  Then I can lock that down even tighter to keep the assholes out.  [sigh]  This is the kind of crap that helped me loose interest in the site over the past few years; I get tired of fighting the jerks who think they have a right to screw with other people's work.  It made it easier to just set everything aside as I dealt with other issues in my life.  But since there are obviously still a few loopholes that jackasses can use to their advantage, I'd better get back to work, I guess.  Maybe I can figure out how to make the site more "mobile friendly" too.  ;)

Hi Guys - sorry for the delay in updating, but my work keeps me busy these days.

@Paul Pain: Nope, it's not the bills (and never has been.)  Previous shutdowns have been for programming issues on the site that led to it being too much of a drain on the server that hosts the site.  That's the reason the forum is now on; I had to separate it from because having the forum integrated into the site was causing the problem.

Nope, this time it was because we got hacked at some point. (Something that has also happened a couple of times over the 19 years the site has been around.)  The hackers were sneakier this time, and didn't touch the site's scripts at all, so it appeared to be normal.  But the assholes uploaded a bunch of folders, stashed inconspicuously, and scripts and were apparently piggy-backing an email spammer on the site.  I don't know for sure how long the files and folders were in there, but their activity caught the attention of the hosting company's tech support and they immediately suspended the account.

I've deleted all of the folders and files that the hackers uploaded, and of course I reset and strengthened the domain's password.  Now we're just waiting on tech support to verify that the domain is now clean and re-enable the site.  Unfortunately the tech support doesn't seem to be as good these days and they can be infuriatingly slow to respond, so I can't guess how much longer will be down.

H/T to BeAStooge for alerting me to the account suspension last night.

News and Announcements / Login Re-enabled on
« on: June 02, 2015, 01:00:50 PM »
I've re-enabled the log-in function on  From what I can tell, the hacker took advantage of a feature on the server that should have been turned off.  (It is now, of course.)  I've also fixed a glitch on the episode pages that prevented members from rating new entries that have been added to the Filmography.  So you can go back to rating episodes and posting reviews.   :)

The site got hacked last night (my thanks to BeAStooge for alerting me this morning.)  I've replaced the hacked index page, but since I don't yet know just how the hacker did it I have disabled logins and registration on the .net site for now.  When (and if) it gets re-enabled is up in the air until I decide what to do.

News and Announcements / Log in at
« on: July 03, 2014, 11:26:23 AM »
I finally got a chance to put a log-in system in place on  The system I was originally going to use turned out to be inappropriate, as it required a function that was not available on our server, so I had to find another one and make sure it would work without the same kind of issue.

Returning members will have to click on the "Forgot password" to reset their password the first time, as the original passwords are encrypted using a different encryption method.  The reset code will be sent to the email address used at registration, so if you no longer have access to that email address you will need to contact me via a PM here so I can update it in the database.

Looks good to me, Rob!

Since the forum is separate again and doesn't have to have the same styling as the main site, I installed a few other themes for the forum as well.  To check them out, go to your profile page and look for the "Look and Layout" link under "Modify Theme."

Forgive me if I missed something--I'm not exactly tech savvy. Are we going to need new passwords to log into the main page of

Yes, since will be using a separate user management system.  I won't be able to import your existing passwords, so once the new login is available on the .net site you will have to request a password reset the first time you try to log in.  You'll be able to set the .net password to be the same as the forum, however, to make it easier to remember.  :)

I'm here. Very happy to see the site back. I can't speak for everyone here, but I'm cool with the forum/site separation. I'm just happy we still have a forum.  :)

Fortunately, this time it was fairly easy to separate them again, since I had anticipated the possibility the last time I merged the two portions together again.  It's a shame to have to separate them, but not the end of the world.

Glad I saw this thread in regards to the forced password reset. I deleted the e-mail address associated with my username close to 8 or so years ago. [pie]

If anyone needs to update their email address here on the forum, now is the time to do it, as I will be copying the appropriate info from the forum database this weekend.  If you miss the opportunity, however, all is not lost as long as you can log in to the forum: just send me a PM with your correct email address, and I will update it manually so you can then request the password reset for

By the way, although I hope you'll like the new forum theme, you can choose to use a different theme instead.  Right now there is only the original default "Curve" and "Core" themes available besides the new one ("Vertex",) but I'll be looking at adding others.

News and Announcements / Deja Vu All Over Again
« on: June 12, 2014, 05:17:09 PM »
It was just a little over a year ago that was shut down due to unreasonable demands on the server's resources.  This week it happened again.

On Monday, June 9th, I got a notice from the hosting company saying that they had shut down the site due to heavy overloads on the server's CPU.  When I investigated it seemed that something about using the forum's API to blend the forum into the main site was causing the problem, although I wasn't able to narrow it down further than that.  Ironically, this is essentially the same issue as last year; I thought everything had been worked out, but apparently I was wrong.

Fortunately, as soon as I saw that it was the forum interaction that was causing the problem, I was able to cut the links between the site and the forum fairly quickly, although it took a while to get the okay from the hosting company.  (I guess they had to test the load for a few hours to make sure it was resolved.), sans forum, was backup and running by Monday evening.

Needless to say, this is frustrating, since I used the members info from the forum to authenticate users on the main site, so you could post reviews and rate the episodes, etc. - not to mention enabling the admin functions for the Team Stooge members.

Fortunately, I think I've found a solution that was designed for the coding framework I use to develop  I think I can install and adapt it to take the place of the forum's API without too much trouble.  I can import the members' data from the forum database into the new system on, although there is one drawback:
  • The passwords are encrypted and can't be copied over, so everyone will have to request a password reset before logging in the first time.  A nuisance, but I don't see away around it.  The password reset will get sent to the email account used for the forum, and you should be able to just reset it to the password that you use for the forum.
I'll be looking at the steps to integrate the new system into the site tonight, and should have it done this weekend (if not sooner.)  I will post an announcement here and on the Facebook page to let everyone know when it's ready for use.

For the forum, I decided to go bare bones with a fresh install of the latest version of the software, with only one mod (to fight the spammers) and, obviously, a new theme.  I imported the database from and copied over the various attachments, avatars and special smileys, so we should be good to go, but please let me know if anything seems "broken."  (Previously added-on forum features, like the picture gallery and the games arcade, were deleted deliberately and probably won't be restored.)

It's a bit of a drag to have the two features separated like this, but the alternative is a dedicated server, and frankly that is too expensive.  The links to the forum will still be on the menu, and I added a link back to the .net site on the forum's menu bar, above, so it shouldn't be too hard to move back and forth.  :)

I love the Canadian group Walk off the Earth.  They started as a cover band, but they are an exceptionally talented group and their videos are very entertaining.  Here is what Wikipedia says about them:

Walk off the Earth is a Canadian rock band that was formed in 2006 in Burlington, Ontario, and has gained success around the world by making low-budget music videos of covers and originals. The band built its fan base independently with no help from record labels, booking agents, or management. In February 2012, the music industry publication Crazed Hits reported that the band had signed a recording contract with Columbia Records.[1] The band is best known for its covers of popular music on YouTube, making use of uncommon instruments such as the ukulele and the theremin, as well as looping samples. The band's recorded music and videos are produced by member and multi-instrumentalist, Gianni Luminati Nicassio.

And here are a few of their most recent videos.  I swear these guys just keep getting better!   ;D

REVO in Paris:

And their most recent (which is quickly becoming my favorite,) Speeches:

When I was younger I was a real nomad.  I never stayed anywhere more than a year or two at a stretch, and suffered from extreme wanderlust ever Spring.  That came to a screeching halt when we moved out here into the countryside 21 years ago.  I guess it was what I was always looking for.

I joke about never taking a vacation, or that my retirement plan is an early grave, but I can't really complain.  Physically speaking, I have a very relaxing life.  I live in the peaceful, quiet countryside.  I work from home, at the hours I choose, and it's stuff I love doing, even when I'm under the gun.    My only real "complaint" is that I isolated myself living in the closet for so long, and living out here makes it a bit harder to get more sociable again.  (There is a complete lack of gay bars in my rural county.  Go figure.)

I am hoping to finally get my (not so fat) ass to the Fan Club meeting next Spring, though, and finally meeting some of you guys.   ;)
