General Discussion / Re: What was the first stooge film you've ever seen?
« on: January 12, 2018, 11:31:57 PM »
My first was Spook Louder. I saw it on a Columbia VHS tape that my Mom rented for me. Curly's being scared to death of the balloon that was following him had me reduced to tears. It was at that moment I became a fan for life!

Love Andy Griffith. Don Knotts was a comic genius and he cracked me up as Barney Fife!

Not sure. I looked into it back when as well, and it did sound like it needed some restoration. I'll see what I can find out!

Huge thanks, Squirrelbait for your full listing of all The Three Stooges Shemp Howard featured Columbia Shorts released on VHS!

Here's my revised listing, below.

With Jerome "Curly" Howard (1934 - 1947):
Shorts (001 - 097) -
Everything from The Three Stooges Columbia debut WOMAN HATERS (1934) through HALF-WITS HOLIDAY (1947)

Features (To Be Determined#) -

With Shemp Howard (1947 - 1956):
Shorts (098 - 173, With some exclusions, including his final 174 COMMOTION ON THE OCEAN (1956)!) -
54 of 77 Shorts (Including 2 of the"Fake Shemps") from Shemp's Columbia Stooges debut, FRIGHT NIGHT (1947) through SCHEMING SCHEMERS (1956)

Features (None Made At Columbia) -

With Joe Besser (1957 - 1959):
Shorts (None*) -
0 of 16 Shorts

With "Curly" Joe DeRita (1959 - 1965):
Features -
All of The Three Stooges Columbia Features from 1959 onward, including

HAVE ROCKET, WILL TRAVEL (1959)
THE THREE STOOGES MEET HERCULES (1962)
THE THREE STOOGES IN ORBIT (1962)
THE THREE STOOGES GO 'ROUND THE WORLD IN A DAZE (1963)
THE OUTLAWS IS COMING (1965)

# Is it safe to assume that none of the Curly featured Three Stooges Feature Length appearances were ever released on VHS?

* Stoogearchy seriously came into play on the VHS format regarding Joe Besser's complete exclusion, no doubt! ;)

By my count, Columbia issued 45 VHS cassettes with 3 Three Stooges shorts on each, comprising 135 shorts total.

CHEERS!  [3stooges]

P.S.  Dare I ask what other Columbia shorts (Besides RUMPUS IN THE HAREM (1956)) and features were issued to Laserdisc?  [pie]

My pleasure, Tony!

Yes, your calculations are correct. There were 45 Columbia tapes in total, and I've still got almost all of them. If you're interested in Laserdisc, this site has an excellent videography that chronicles all of these types of releases over the years. Have a look!

Laserdisc:

VHS:

By the way, it looks like 'My Sister Eileen' was released on VHS in 1982, and on Laserdisc as well. Just a heads up!

5
And yes, as far as the features were concerned, ALL of the Curly Joe films were released to VHS as well.

6
As mentioned here already, all 97 of the Curly shorts were released on the Columbia tapes. If my math skills are correct, the following list would comprise 54 Shemp shorts released onto VHS. All were on Columbia tapes unless otherwise noted:

I believe the door goes smashy four times in the short.

I believe that answer would be......CORRECT!  :)

Alright, next question ...
In the academy award nominated short "Men in Black", the dreaded doctor "callboard" appears no less than seven times during the short ... can you name the doctors listed on that call board? AND the placement of "Doctor Howard, Doctor Fine, Doctor Howard" in that callboard?
(Remember, this is the callboard that sighed at the end of the short ... "Ooohhh, they GOT me!")

Doctors Howard, Fine & Howard, they appear on the middle, right hand side of the callboard. The complete list is:

(Left Side)
Dr. King
Dr. Lynch
Dr. Davis
Dr. Spinks
Dr. Burton
Dr. Graves
Dr. Boyd
Dr. James

(Right Side)
Dr. Scott
Dr. Brown
Dr. Savage
DR. HOWARD
DR. FINE
DR. HOWARD
DR. Green
DR. Carew

...AAAAND since we're on the subject of Men In Black, who can tell me how many times Dr. Graves' glass door is broken through the course of the film?
