General Discussion / Re: Three Stooges Journal # 154 (Summer 2015)
« on: June 28, 2015, 05:09:25 PM »

SIA, has your Journal arrived yet?  A year or two ago, one of mine failed to arrive and never has shown up to this day.  I don't know if a USPS worker decided to keep it or if the USPS machinery mangled it beyond recognition, or just what happened.
No, it has not. I'm not sure if it has to do with USPS or the Stoogeum.

Yes, I would also like to thank 7stooges. I'll be sure to check out some of the clips that he mentioned!

Hmm.. it's been a week and I live just several states away from The Stoogeum's headquarters. I'm not sure why this hasn't been delivered. Has anybody else had the same problem, or is it just me?

Yeah, it says they're releasing it on European DVD... I hope that soon after this they release DVDS of this comedy gem ( from what it seems) in the US, because I would really like to see this! From what I've heard, it's taking a few months for them to restore the movie ( probably restoring the 1st reel, because the 2nd reel seems like it's in good shape) and also for them to edit the two reels. I always thought that even in its 11-minute form that it would be one of the best if more of it was found. Let's see if my hopes are correct!

5
No, Big Chief, I believe that there is about 7 minutes of reel one that is able to watch ( the boxing fight, which is hilarious stuff) and they still need to find the insurance policy scene in order for the whole entire movie to be complete. Before a few days ago, only most of the pie fight (about 3 or 4 minutes worth) remained of reel 2. They found the rest of it which includes a cop getting a pie in the face, Stan and Ollie tumbling over things, and more. I think you just got the reels confused.
But, it looks like once they are done editing what they have found of BOTC and what was previously found, it will in fact be released on DVD! I'm not sure if it's in the US, though..

Hey, guys! Sorry that I haven't posted in a while over here, but I've just been so busy.
I really liked this movie, but the absolute best part is the 2nd half which can call for as comic legend. This is definitely a 10, in my book. ( BTW, did you guys hear they found reel 2 of Battle of The Century?)
Also, can somebody please tell me what the heck this is? https://youtu.be/CPr9KSr9HdY I took one look at it, and I was extremely confused.

Hmm.. Doesn't look like a rumor. Any news of when this is supposed to start and what channel this is going to be on.

You should try doing more, and keep us posted with updates when you do.  I'll be doing a new review shortly after typing this.
Yeah, for some reason, I have abandoned doing those blogs and I don't know why. I have been debating on whether or not I should post more. On both blogs.

Yeah, sorry about the bad Slipping Wives review. That was my first time watching it, and when I watched it I wasn't very much a fan of silent comedy and also that was my first time watching it. Now that I've seen it more times, I like it much more.

There is a clip of them performing in The Three Stooges Story, doing the "I won't pay it!"/*smack* routine that Larry, Moe and Curley-Joe did in one of The New 3 Stooges wraparounds.
Yes, that was what I was referring to. I did some more research on the Gentlemaniacs and it turns out that they worked through the 30's into the 50's. They had 2 films in 1937.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but it's a question, so what the heck.  Did Ted Healy ever make a movie with the replacement stooges, Garner, Hakins and Wolf? Thanks for your time and grey matter.
However, I'm pretty sure that the Gentlemaniacs made a few films after Ted Healy's tragic, mysterious death.

I think so, but I am not positive..

Wow, you really covered everything, 7stooges! Really informative. In fact, speaking of Dick Bann and Leonard Maltin's book, you could in fact write a book based off of all of that Our Gang knowledge!! You really covered everything!

Maybe Dunrobin could explain this better, but I believe the "log-in" function for the main site was disabled after someone hacked the site...
Oh..

Do not know if you guys could help me with this, but could somebody please tell me how to log in to your account through the home page of thethreestooges.net and typing fan reviews? I want to do some of those, but I can't really do them because I don't know how to.

I got my copy yesterday and let me just say that it is REALLY well put together! I only got time to watch about 40 minutes of the first part, though.. But, from what I saw, the DVD was really great and so was the memorabilia.

17
NO! NOT THIS AGAIN! PLEASE!!! NOT THIS AGAINNNNNN!!!!! The 1st movie was torture anyways for an hour and a half, and plus this sequel isn't going to happen for another 10 years just like the 1st one..

Wasn't Our Gang Follies Of 1938 the last 2-reeler the Gang did for Roach?
Yes, and I also believe it was one of Hal Roach's last two-reelers, too!

Yeah, I found it interesting when they first came out, especially with the 'Funnier In Color' marketing campaign, and while I still have these DVDs, I really don't find myself watching them that often. It's interesting to see once, though.
Yes, I totally agree. While they definitely aren't the most interesting things in the world, they are nice to watch just a few times because trying to colorize the classics just doesn't seem to work out for me.

I'm going with that John Aasen is probably like 7'5 or 7'6, and definitely not 8'9 which would make him the tallest man ever to live.

I agree with both of you.  I wonder why no one does.

SIA, do you plan to watch "Arbor Day" on Arbor day (24.April)?  I do.  I'm sure you love the part where Buckwheat forgets his line but is very pleased when his mother says it.
Yes! The Arbor Day episode is actually the last two reel short the Gang made for Hal Roach. That short certainly is a classic, and I do enjoy the part that you mentioned.

As separate entries?  No.  Worth a mention in the main entries?  Yes, which is also how I'll handle foreign language versions.
Yeah, I was wondering what you were going to do about the foreign language versions.

I wish a more popular channel would show the Roach-era talkies.
Yeah, especially a channel geared towards kids.
